Collection: Landscapes

Salina Ramsay Studio announces a new collection of small works. The works are intimate views of scenes I enjoy on regular basis. The farm scenes are views I relish when I visit my grey Thoroughbred, "Buhbie".  On fair weather afternoons and evenings, a group of us will often get together and ride around the farm, enjoying the lovely, natural setting of woods, creek, pond, and wildlife. It is not unusual to see deer, turkeys, hawks, herons, and sometimes coyotes. I have dubbed our little group "The Sunset Riders" of "The Cowgirl Country Club".

The mountain scenes are also very much a part of my life as I enjoy visits in the North Carolina mountains. Growing up in North Carolina, I took for granted that these views were so close. I lacked appreciation for how beautiful the mountains were and how joyful it is to experience them. All seasons are beautiful in the mountains. Each time I visit, I feel restored and I am always a little sad to leave them.

In the future, I will continue to explore natural settings and, as the weather warms, I may even pack some paint into my saddle bags and paint while my mount patiently grazes in fields of Kentucky bluegrass and clover.

The Design Process

All Salina Ramsay Studio Gold designs are created using the traditional lost wax method. Salina began designing jewelry for the horse industry in 1986.

Each design usually begins with a study Salina creates on paper or from an original oil painting. Sometimes the designs are rough pencil drawings and sometimes they are done in watercolor.

Sculpting In Wax

The second phase of the design process involves scuplting a creation in wax. This is the piece that will be cast in either sterling silver or gold. From this original design, a hollow mold is created that will receive hot wax to form duplicates of the original wax sculpture.

The Finished Work

Finally, the piece is cast in gold and painstakingly finished by master goldsmiths.
