Wearing horse jewelry can also foster a sense of community among horse lovers. When people wear equestrian jewelry, they are often seen as part of a group of individuals who share the same passion and love for horses.
I recently attended a small county fair horse show in Woodford County, Versailles, Kentucky. The show featured some fine American Saddlebred Horses, and Hackney Ponies. There were no barns, people tied their horses and ponies to their trailers or they held them. I had a wonderful time visiting with people and making studies of horses and ponies from life. One hackney road pony was such an angel, he stood perfectly still for an hour before his class. Not only did this pony stand quietly, but he also won his class against about five other road ponies! I wish I had been paying more attention to him earlier, I would have had a marvelous opportunity to create a more finished drawing from life!
Oh, sure, the show was hot, muggy, and buggy. But the spirit at that little show was breezy and friendly. Exhibitors and competitors offered encouragement to their fellows. I think this summer I will make a point to attend more of these small county fair shows. Woodford makes three this year, after Bourbon County, Lawrenceburg, and Shelbyville. We are blessed in this bluegrass state with some of the most beautiful horses and people on the planet. I am grateful to be a part of this lovely state of Kentucky.
