As with all artistic creations, Selvaggia has a history. I first began working on this piece in 2010, just after the Secretariat film had been released. My original intention was to create a universal horse head pendant for all horse lovers. I started this piece and progressed almost to the point of being ready to cast. For whatever reason, I decided I didn't like the piece. Sometimes creatives make decisions that make little to no sense to others. I suppose this was one of those instances.
Fast forward to about two years ago. One of my horsie friends was visiting me in my studio and loved the piece. She thought I was crazy not to finish it and have it cast. Claire is a writer in the racing industry so I decided it was time to move forward and finish the piece. Along with Selvaggia, I finished my other pieces in process and sent them to the casting house.
I've had several requests for sterlilng silver. I wasn't sure I was going to move into sterling pieces but I decided to give it a try. I've always loved silver and, I have to say I am very happy with the way Selvaggia looks in silver; kind of icy and ancient in feel with a hint of contemporary. To me, it appears to have more movement somehow in silver. I may be imagining this. What do you think?
